Assoc Prof Sushmita Roy - understanding reprogramming checkpoints using scRNA-seq and computational methods

BMI Associate Professor Sushmita Roy has been collaborating with Assistant Professor Rupa Sridharan (Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology and Wisconsin Institute for Discovery) to better understand the reprogramming checkpoints that occur as differentiated cells become pluripotent cells, and how they might improve that process to make it faster and more efficient. Their paper, published on May 7, 2019 in Cell Reports, describes the how they used epigenomic modifiers, signaling molecules, and computational methods to pinpoint what happens in individual cells during the reprogramming process. The team combined single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) of the cell transcriptome with computational algorithms to gain a high-resolution view of the gene regulatory networks at play at the single cell level during reprogramming events.
